Almaty, Kazakhstan (20 February 2012) – The five-day Regional Training-of-Trainers workshop, organised by the EU-UNDP Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) Programme together with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), started today.
Two international trainers, Zuzana Armutidisova and Vera Stankova will present teaching and presentation methods, as well as selected didactical tools to future instructors. After completion of the training session, participants are expected to practice their presentation and facilitation skills in their capacity as future trainers. Participants of the workshop, twenty-six mid rank officers and experts from border management agencies (Border guards, Customs, Phytosanitary and Veterinary services) will be trained on concrete examples and have opportunities to practice teaching methods during the workshop. It is planned that in the nearest future BOMCA will establish institutional partnerships between Central Asia and the European Union's border management training institutions, in order to enhance the development of regional 'Centres of Excellence', i.e. institutions capable of taking a lead role in cascading down training in thematic areas to national trainers. The overall objectives of BOMCA 8 are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people. The BOMCA Programme is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP with ICMPD as an implementing partner.
