Aktau, Kazakhstan (13 October 2011) – The four-day National Border Management training session, organised by the EU-UNDP Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) programme together with OSCE and IOM, completed today.
Participants of the workshop, fourteen mid rank officers of the Kazakh Border Service, received on-the job training on border control procedures, risk analysis and assessment, contingency planning and other aspects of border management. Experts from the Polish and Latvian Border Troops presented the European concept of the Integrated Border Management (IBM) and its practical implementation at external borders of the European Union. A trainer from the Kazakh Border Service and expert from Moscow Border Institute discussed with the workshop participants daily border management practices at Border Crossing Points (BCPs). International experts together with participants made comparative analysis of international practices and national border management procedures. Participants found useful the presentation of international document examination techniques and performance development system of border guards in the EU and Central Asia. The overall objectives of BOMCA 8 are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people.
