Dushanbe, 10 June 2011 – The Border Management in Central Asia Programme (BOMCA) handed over constructed and equipped buildings for the Patar border crossing point (BCP) to the Tajik Border Troops today. The project sites handed over today include renovated facilities of the border crossing point with heating and water supply systems. The buildings are equipped with furniture, office equipment, communication and other equipment. Total construction budget together with furniture and equipment provided for the BCP amounted to €834,678. The Patar BCP is located in Fergana valley in Kanibadam district bordering with Uzbekistan. There is cross-border market adjacent to this border crossing point. Now, when complete infrastructure is in place, it is hoped that the movement of people and goods will increase dramatically. Once operational, Patar BCP will relieve other check points located on the Tajik-Uzbek border. Within the framework of the EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance programme, the European Union fosters institutional reform in border management, strengthens training capacities, assists in securing the Tajik-Afghan border, improves the infrastructure along trade and transit routes, and helps counter drug smuggling in Central Asia.
