Monday, 19 April 2010 00:00

Luebeck (the Federal Republic of Germany), 16 April 2010 – A study tour for 19 representatives of Central Asian border management agencies (border guards and customs officers), organised by the EU-UNDP Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) assistance programme in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), ended today.

The aim of the tour was to support Central Asian countries in developing and expanding their training capacities to further effectively introduce training courses in Integrated Border Management (IBM) into training curricula of border management agencies.

Participants of the study tour were familiarised with the structure and mandate of the German Federal Police and the Federal Police Academy. Also, they studied training & retraining methodologies and functional tasks of the Academy, the Criminal Education Centre and of regional training centres of the Federal Police.

Within the framework of the BOMCA assistance programme, the European Union fosters institutional reform in border management, strengthens training capacities, assists in securing the Tajik-Afghan border, improving the infrastructure along trade and transit corridors, and helps to improve the capability of Central Asian countries to counter drug smuggling.

The EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance programme is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP. ICMPD is a partner of UNDP in implementation of the BOMCA Programme.
